Here's a little about what iiNET had to say on their website about this new partnership:
Ok, so you're probably wondering why an internet company would be teaming up with a sports organisation. Fair point. We could go on about synergies and other clever buzzwords, but you'd probably stop reading.
To put it simply, we may be geeks but we also love sport. We've helped make the internet big in Australia and we hope to do the same for basketball. For the record though, here's the longwinded version:
iiNet started out in the garage of a family home back in 1993. Fast forward 17 years and the same homestead operation has grown into the leading challenger for internet services in Australia.
While no longer garage-bound, iiNet still thinks big. We were first Australian ISP to offer super-fastADSL2+ broadband and do away with the need for phone lines with Naked DSL. Then we made using the internet and phone even easier with BoB™, our all-in-one communications solution.
Not content to stop there, we've again lead the market with Australia's first real IPTV service, fetchtv 2 – bringing world-class subscription TV, High-Definition digital free-to-air channels, the latest movies on command, games, social media applications and more to Australian lounge rooms.
So you see, we've always wanted the internet to be accessible to everyone, because... well, it's awesome. And we think everyone should be able to enjoy basketball for the same reason.
The NBL was once one of the country's most popular sports and, with its return to free-to-air TV via Network Ten, we think it's about to make a major comeback.
Basketball Australia is thinking big right now. And, as we've mentioned, we like to think big too.
