Wildcats Games in Google Calendar

Not sure why no one has done this yet but I decided to put all the Wildcats games in a google calendar with the Perth time of when they are playing. If you are using Google Calendar and a Perth Wildcats fan, you can add the Google calendar to your calendar - just click on the bottom right icon in the calendar to the right. If you are going to use this calendar, please leave a message so I know it's worth updating things like when the games are available for iiNET customers on Freezone or if games are televised.

All games are shown on NBLTV for a $59 annual subscription. All games are broadcast LIVE on 98.5 Sonshine FM which you can listen to online here. All games can also be followed online on the FIBA Livestats page. People will also be tweeting on Twitter, just look up the @PerthWildcats link to see what the hashtag is for the game.

ONEHD Changes TV schedule for NBL

NBL broadcaster ONE HD made the decision to scrap coverage of Cairns’ home game against Perth Wildcats on February 4 and the reptile rumble in Townsville on February 13, blaming logistical issues after floods in southeast Queensland.
But the Bruce Highway is open and the Taipans even offered to fly the equipment to Cairns from Brisbane to solve the problem.
Games between Sydney and Adelaide (February 4) and Gold Coast and Adelaide (February 13) will be televised instead.

Now that the league is up and running

Just some observations with recent developments in the NBL and iiNET partnership..

iiNET is sponsoring the "Backyard basketball hero" competition which links the NBL with the online technology that iiNET represents. However, I think the boys from Perth of Youtube fame probably have this competition rigged. In many ways, this is a great promotion for iiNET to be involved in because it represents the "grassroots" success that both the NBL and iiNET have in common. It is another way to give back to the community that is backing local basketball in Australia.

Success is the keyword for the week with various people like Andrew Gaze and Adam Ballinger talking about how well the NBL has been revived in this 2010/11 season. I think the fact that the NBL is coinciding with the NBA season has also helped the NBL ride the coat tails of the NBA. Shows like Overtime create a montage of American and Australian basketball coverage each week. The commentary for the games shown live have also been much better and exciting. Radio coverage has helped as well with some games only broadcast on the radio in some cities.

WHAT'S NEXT: For iiNET to look more than just a corporate sponsor, there needs to be some connection between iiNET customers and basketball fans. There are many ways that this can be done and I am looking forward to the second half of this season to see whether this partnership will mature into one of Australia's greatest marketing success stories.

SUGGESTION: iiNET VIP Customers NBL promotion

I believe there is much that can be done in terms of promoting iiNET through the NBL and one of the key ways is to make the most of the thousands at NBL games. One suggestion would be to have exclusive VIP courtside tickets for iiNET customers, given out to customers through the iiNET newsletter asking them a question about the NBL (to ensure they will enjoy the game rather than ebay the tickets).

I for one would be keen to get free tickets to a Wildcats game. I could imagine a promotion where iiNET customers get courtside seats and at half time, get an opportunity to win something by shooting a half court bomb. The announcer could talk about the iiNET VIP customer and ask them what they think of iiNET before handing the ball over to the lucky customer. Doing that, you would have just suggested to the 5000 people that iiNET customers are treated like VIPs. Good idea? leave a comment with your suggestions for cross promotion.
